        Seid Teil eines großen Kunstwerks!

Haltet unsere Erde in euren Armen – eine einfache, fürsorgliche Geste, die verbindet. Die Erde wird nicht getragen, weil sie uns gehört. Sie wird gehalten, weil wir ihr angehören. Wenn ihr euch von dieser Idee angesprochen fühlt, beteiligt euch am offenen, wachsenden Projekt. Daraus soll eine große Ausstellung werden.

So geht’s:

• Macht ein Foto, Handy oder Kamera, in dem ihr die Erde im Arm haltet. Schaut in die Kamera oder schaut auf die Erde in eurem Arm.
• Sendet das Foto mit eurem Vornamen und Ort (Land, Lieblings- oder Kraftort oder Stadt) an michael@knorr-vieten.de.
• Der Fotograf Michael Knorr sammelt in diesem Kunst-Projekt Bilder aus aller Welt – daraus entsteht eine gemeinsame, globale Bildsprache der Fürsorge für diese Welt.

#ErdeHüten ist eine Einladung, Verantwortung sichtbar zu machen – wo wir aufhören, die Erde als Kulisse zu betrachten, als Kapitalanlage oder als optimales Ausschöpfungspotential, und wir sie wieder als Gegenüber erkennen. Wo aus einer Handvoll Erde eine Begegnung wird – still, verletzlich und voller Zukunft. Und vielleicht wird aus vielen solcher Begegnungen ein gemeinsames Bild der Welt: gehalten von den Armen der Menschen, die auf ihr leben.

Tending the Earth

Be part of an art installation

There are images that do not show but remember. Not the past, but something we carry inside us. Tending the Earth is a photographic project about this memory — about our quiet, often forgotten connection to the Earth.

The images depict the same simple gesture: holding the Earth in the arms. Not a heroic pose, not possession, but a moment of care. The Earth is not carried because it belongs to us. It is held because we belong to it. The person in the image looks at the viewer.

The project nods to the poetic visual language of Lois Weinberger, whose work gives landscape and the inconspicuous its own dignity, in line with his understanding of not mastering nature but listening to it. In a caring gesture toward the Earth, I invite you to sense nature as a miracle and to connect with it, to become a miracle yourself. At the same time, I am reminded of Joseph Beuys, whose project 7000 Eichen was understood as a living intervention in the future — a reminder to not only think about responsibility but to plant it.

Tending the Earth follows this idea: photography becomes a place where closeness arises because we can enter into a relationship. Between human and landscape. Between hand and ground. Between memory and hope.

The images were created in quiet landscapes, in fields, at forest edges, in gardens, or in places whose stories lie hidden in the soil. Hands cradle the Earth as if holding something precious and at the same time fragile. Faces step back and simply look at the viewer, open to what may come from it. The gesture of holding becomes the actual portrait. It speaks of care rather than possession, of connection rather than control.

The project may grow: But Tending the Earth is not meant as a completed work of my person. It is intended as an open, evolving project — an invitation to become part of a shared visual language. I invite people from different regions, landscapes, and countries to create their own image: with the soil of their homeland, their place of life, or a place with which they feel a connection, always the same simple gesture — holding the Earth in the arm. Each image remains unique, because every hand tells a different story and every ground carries its own memory.

My wish is that, over time, a worldwide mosaic of photographs will accumulate. Different soils, different people, different cultures, connected by the same stance of care. From many individual images grows a joint image of our responsibility. Please send the photos to me, the author of the idea. I collect and archive these images with the first name of the person and the country, region, or city.

All photographs created will eventually be brought together in a single exhibition. The exhibition will not only show the work of a photographer but the visible trace of a shared idea.

Each photograph stands for a place and, at the same time, for the awareness that all places are part of the same Earth. The diversity of landscapes and people makes the unity of our living space tangible.

Earth is both origin and future. It preserves traces of past lives and carries the promise of what can grow. Those who hold the Earth hold not only dust but time. Not only matter but memory and life. Perhaps also hope.

Perhaps tending begins exactly where we stop seeing the Earth as a backdrop, as a capital asset, or as optimal exploitation potential, and recognize it again as a counterpart. Where a handful of Earth becomes an encounter — quiet, vulnerable, and full of future. And perhaps from many such encounters, a common image of the world arises: held by the arms of people who live on it.

• Take a photo in which you hold the Earth in your arms. Look at the camera, or simply into the image.
